LII DESCENSO A NADO DE LA RÍA DE NAVIA
En 1958 (muy probablemente el 16 de Agosto) unos cuantos chavales se lanzaron a la ría de Navia y nadaron hacia un puente –un recorrido de unos mil metros. Por lo que se sabe eran 14 nadadores cuya única pretensión era la de conjugar deporte y diversión. Lo pasaron bien y decidieron repetir el encuentro al año siguiente. Así nacía, como un puro “divertimento” estival, el Descenso a Nado de la Ría de Navia.
Cincuenta años más tarde, la ría asturiana es una referencia importante de la natación de larga distancia (de la especialidad de “aguas vivas”, como nos gusta decir en Navia), consolidándose como un escenario competitivo apreciado a nivel europeo. Hay, por otra parte, un aspecto que va más allá del carácter estrictamente deportivo –el festejo que acompaña y anima la competición goza de la calificación oficial de “Fiesta de Interés Turístico Nacional”.
La convocatoria anual del Descenso supone hoy un acontecimiento sociológico variado y enriquecedor, cuya esencia está en la sintonía que se establece entre los entusiastas del deporte de la natación que acuden a su llamada, los habitantes de las tierras occidentales de Asturias y el marco natural de una ría a la que amar y cuidar. Ese es el espíritu
Siempre el Agua, siempre los Amigos
In 1958 (probably on the 16th Agoust) a group of guys dove in the water of the Navia River estuary towards a bridge –a route of about one thousand metres. According to the information that we have, they were 14 swimmiers with the only intention of joining sport and fun. They had a good time and decided to repeat their meeting the following year. That is how, as a simple summer enjoyment, the Descenso was born.
Fifty years later, the Asturian estuary is an important point of reference in the open water swimming (in the speciality of “aguas vivas”, as we like to say in Navia), consolidated as a competitive setting appreciated at European level. There is, on the other hand, an aspect beyond the sport trial –the celebration that accompanies and livens the competition up has the official qualification of "National Tourist Interest Party".
The annual celebration of the Descenso means nowadays a varied and rich sociologic event, which essence is the understanding between the swimming supporters that come to Navia, the citizens of the villages in the Occidental Asturias and the natural environment of the estuary to be loved and looked after. That is the spirit.
